Did you notice the long burps that you do after you’ve just had Baking Soda water solution?
Have you ever thought what those burps signal? Well, actually it is the Carbon Dioxide gas that causes the burping.
The simple mixture has been proven to relieve heartburn, neutralize stomach acid, and can even be effective in treating the symptoms of a cold or flu. For those that suffer from heartburn, you know you would do nearly anything for some quick relief.
Do You Burp 5 Minutes After Drinking Baking Soda Water?
The Baking Soda Stomach Acid Test
This test works by consuming baking soda and creating a chemical reaction in your stomach when Sodium Bicarbonate and Hydrochloric Acid meet. As I mentioned previously the result is Carbon Dioxide gas which causes burping. Taking in baking soda is an ages-old natural home remedy for upset stomachs. It is one of the cheapest tests out there. Moreover, many people want to try this first because it is very safe, quick and easy.
Though there’s a slight drawback with this test. In general, there multiple variables to keep under control. Attempting to minimize all the variables can be a tough ask and I would strongly suggest performing the test 3 consecutive mornings to find a mean. This way, you’re looking for more of a pattern than a one time test of “yes” or “no.”. More so, for the even better accuracy of the test, conduct is as soon as you wake up in the morning before putting anything in your mouth.
For the record, there aren’t many scientific studies that prove this method of stomach acid testing is either more or less reliable than some of the other tests out there.
The results of this test can vary widely depending from a body to body and it’s up to your interpretation, both of which are not ideal.
Quick and Easy way to See if You Have Low Stomach Acid!?
- Mix 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 4-6 ounces of cold water first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything.
- Drink the baking soda solution.
- Time how long it takes you to belch. Time up to five minutes.
- If you have not belched within five minutes, stop timing.
Theory suggests that if your stomach is producing suitable amounts of stomach acid you are most likely to belch within two to three minutes.
Early and repeated belching may be due to excessive stomach acid (but in most cases, these are confused with small little burps from swallowing air when drinking the solution). If belching occurs after 3 minutes that usually indicates a low acid level.
Because the time frames can vary person-to-person and from body-to-body, as well as how they consume the solution, this test is only a good indicator that you might want to conduct additional tests to accurately determine your stomach acid.
This test is not accurate enough to rule out low stomach acid. To rule out low stomach acid, you will need to try the Heidelberg test or Betaine HCL challenge test.
